For many of us, building sufficient wealth to secure the future of our spouse and children is of utmost importance. While we at Hergott Law cannot assist you with the building of that wealth, we can, however, help you ensure that the assets you have worked so hard to secure, will be allocated the way you wish them to be allocated.

There are "kits" that can be purchased very economically for the preparation of a Will without legal assistance. Because I am not familiar with the various products on the market, I cannot advise you as to how legally binding such Wills might be. I can assure you however, that estate planning is about so much more than a Will.

In fact, it can be a wise estate planning tactic to have the bulk of your assets pass outside your estate where a Will has absolutely no impact. For example, owning a home jointly with a child will result in that child inheriting that asset regardless of what your Will says, with no estate fees being payable.

That was just one example, and it may very well not be a good option in your particular circumstances. The only way to make informed choices from the various options available is to obtain the advice of a lawyer. The lawyer will be able to advise whether or not further consultations might be warranted with an investment advisor or an accountant.
